PREPARATION FOR LIFE

This class will focus on and emphasize personal and social responsibility. Topics include communication skills, decision making, personal relationships, sexuality, and consumer responsibility. Relationships and independent living skills will be covered.
Students can expect to: - take notes and read assignments
- hear speakers from the community such as credit counselors, doctors, nurses, health educators, bankers, and drug counselors
- share in discussion
- research and present to the class
- learn from videos
Students will learn to: - use steps in the decision making process
- evaluate healthy vs. unhealthy relationships
- explore career opportunities in various course topics
- understand the responsibilities of teenage marriage,
teen pregnancies and teen parenting
-develop techniques for effective communication
- examine personal and community resources available to
families and individuals
- examine risks of chemical use
- understand the reasons for and responsibility of
sexual behavior, STD's, HIV/AIDS, contraceptives
- explore personal awareness and self-esteem issues
- be familiar with changing lifestyles: traditional vs. non-traditional lifestyles
- apply consumer knowledge to personal and family financial well-being
- examine need for mutual respect for lifestyles and cultures
